Sparkling & Champagne

Sparkling wine is a broad term that encompasses all wines with significant levels of carbon dioxide, making them fizzy. Champagne, on the other hand, is a sparkling wine from the Champagne region of France and is produced under strict regulations.

Blush Wines & Chilled Reds

Blush wine, also referred to as rosé wine, is a charming and adaptable type of wine that holds a special significance to me. Its vivid hue, invigorating flavor, and knack for complementing a diverse range of dishes make it a beloved choice among wine connoisseurs globally. In this piece, I will delve into the world of blush wine, examining its roots, production techniques, taste profiles, and additional information.

Reisling

Reisling is a white grape variety that originated in the Rhine region. Riesling is an aromatic grape variety displaying flowery, almost perfumed, aromas as well as high acidity. It is used to make dry, semi-sweet, sweet, and sparkling white wines.

Wollersheim White Reisling, Wisconsin

Sauvignon Blanc

Sauvignon Blanc is a white wine produced from the grape variety of the same name. In North and South America, New Zealand, and Australia, it goes by the name of that grape, and bottles tend to be labeled as Sauvignon Blanc. In France, however, that is generally not the case.

Stoneleigh Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, NZ

Interesting Whites

White wines tend to be tarter and refreshing than reds, with aromatic notes like flowers, citrus, and orchard fruits. White wines are usually lighter in body and in alcohol.

Banfi La Pettegola Vermentino, Toscana, Italy

Pinot Grigio

Pinot grigio is a white wine that is often light, crisp, and dry with plenty of zippy, mouth-watering acidity.

Chardonnay

Chardonnay is known as a winemaker’s grape, because it can grow in many climates and it’s easy to work with in the cellar. It allows a winemaker creative license to make it light and elegant, or full-bodied and buttery. Chardonnay can taste different, depending on where it grows and how it’s made. But typically, Chardonnay is a dry, medium- to full-bodied wine with moderate acidity and alcohol.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon tends to showcase currants, cherry and brambly berry liqueur, and, if it's been aged in new oak, aromas and flavors of vanilla and chocolate. It'a also common to find hints of cedar, pencil led, minerals, sweet spice, and if it's been grown in a cooler climate, more vegetal notes like bell peppers, sage, or chamomile.

Interesting Reds

Red wine is a type of wine made from dark-colored grape varieties. The color of the wine can range from intense violet, typical of young wines, through to brick red for mature wines and brown for older red wines. The juice from most purple grapes is greenish white, the red color coming from anthocyanin pigments present in the skin of the grape. Much of the red wine production process involves extraction of color and flavor components from the grape skin.

Zinfandel & Merlot

Zinfandel pairs well with Moroccan and Turkish spices that embellish the wine’s cinnamon-spice subtleties. Merlot is a red wine that is produced from the grape variety of the same name. Stylistically, it runs the gamut from fruit-forward and sweet with oak to more structured and nuanced, capable of aging for decades.

Malbec & Bordeaux

Malbec is a full-bodied red wine that grows mostly in Argentina. Known for its plump, dark fruit flavors and smoky finish, Malbec wine offers a great alternative to higher priced Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Red wines from Bordeaux are medium- to full-bodied with aromas of black currant, plums, and earthy notes of wet gravel or pencil lead. When you taste the wines, they burst with mineral and fruit notes that lead into prickly, savory, mouth-drying tannins. The tannins are often high enough that wines will age for several decades.
